Short answer: if you don’t want to check every menu, go where halal food is the default. In Muslim-majority countries such as Malaysia, Türkiye, the UAE, Indonesia and Morocco, halal is simply how food is served. Outside the Muslim world, Singapore is the easiest; the GMTI 2025 ranks it the top non-OIC destination for Muslim travelers. And if you want a beach holiday with zero food worries, book a resort where all food is halal.
Three ways to holiday with halal food
| Option | How easy is halal food? | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| A Muslim-majority country | Halal is the norm almost everywhere | City breaks, road trips, eating out every night |
| A Muslim-friendly non-Muslim country | Plenty of halal places, but you still check | Singapore, London, Hong Kong |
| An all-halal resort | Every restaurant on the property is halal | Beach holidays where you don’t want to leave the resort |
Muslim-majority destinations where halal is the default
Among countries in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the GMTI 2025 ranks Malaysia first, recognizing its halal-friendly services and infrastructure (CrescentRating). Coverage of the index reports Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and the UAE sharing second place (Web in Travel).
- Malaysia: street food, hawker centers and malls where halal is standard. Start with halal food in Malaysia.
- Türkiye: kebabs, meze and seafood, plus beach resorts that are fully alcohol-free. See halal holidays in Turkey and Istanbul street food.
- UAE: halal food is everywhere in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, though many hotels serve alcohol. See halal fine dining in Dubai.
- Indonesia and Morocco: Lombok and Java, Marrakech and Fes are easy for halal eating. Bali is Hindu-majority, so check there. See Bali and Lombok and Morocco.
Non-Muslim countries with easy halal food
Outside the OIC, the GMTI 2025 ranks Singapore first and Hong Kong third (CrescentRating). Coverage of the index reports the United Kingdom in second place (Web in Travel).
- Singapore: halal-certified restaurants are certified by MUIS, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, so look for its logo. See halal travel in Singapore.
- United Kingdom: London has a large choice of halal restaurants, from casual to fine dining. See halal fine dining in London and halal holidays in England.
- Japan and South Korea: possible with planning; halal places are fewer and clustered in big cities. See halal food in Japan and South Korea.
Resorts where all food is halal
For a beach holiday without leaving the resort, choose a property listed with “all halal food”. Examples we’ve documented: Adenya, Adin and Wome Deluxe in Türkiye (also alcohol-free), Fiyavalhu in the Maldives (also alcohol-free), and Jumeirah Zabeel Saray in Dubai. Compare them in luxury halal resorts and halal all-inclusive resorts.
Don’t forget the journey
Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Turkish Airlines and Malaysia Airlines all state on their websites that their meals are halal. On other airlines, order a Muslim meal (MOML) at least 24 hours ahead. See which airlines serve halal food and halal food at airports.
How to check halal food anywhere
- Look for a local certification logo (for example MUIS in Singapore) rather than a handwritten “halal” sign.
- Ask whether all the meat is halal, or just some dishes.
- Ask whether alcohol is used in cooking or sauces.
- At a hotel, ask whether “halal” applies to every restaurant or only the breakfast buffet.
FAQ
Which country is best for halal food holidays?
Malaysia ranks first among OIC countries in the GMTI 2025. Outside the Muslim world, Singapore ranks first.
Is halal food easy to find in Europe?
In big cities such as London, yes. Türkiye, which straddles Europe and Asia, makes it easiest of all. In smaller towns elsewhere, plan ahead or book accommodation with a kitchen.
Are all-inclusive resorts halal?
Only some. Look for “all halal food” on the listing, and check separately whether the resort is alcohol-free.
