Short answer: Halal hotels in Tunisia exist, but most beach resorts that appear in “halal” searches are not alcohol-free. In the 11 HalalBooking listings we checked, only 2 small properties say no alcohol is served on the premises; the big resorts in Sousse, Monastir, Hammamet and Djerba offer an alcohol-free room (alcohol removed from your room) while the rest of the hotel may serve it. Pool rules differ more than you’d expect: three well-known resorts list their pools as “modest swimwear not allowed,” so check every pool, not just the beach.
Halal hotels in Tunisia compared: what each listing says
All rows below come from the property’s HalalBooking page, opened on October 23, 2026 (label: Listed). “Modest swimwear” means a burkini or full-cover swimsuit. “Alcohol-free room” is not the same as an alcohol-free property; see what a halal-friendly hotel really means.

Are there alcohol-free halal hotels in Tunisia?
Yes, but they are a small share and mostly not the large aquapark resorts. HalalBooking’s Tunisia page showed 646 properties on October 23, 2026, and its filter counted 70 “alcohol-free properties” against 276 “alcohol-free rooms” (Listed; these counts change daily). In our sample, the two properties that state “no alcohol is served on the premises” were a 3-star hotel on Djerba without a listed pool and a guest house in Hammamet without a pool.
The pattern for the well-known beach resorts is the same everywhere we looked: “Alcohol is removed from guest’s room … if booked on Halalbooking.” That gives you a minibar without alcohol, nothing more. Bars, the pool deck and the dining room can still serve it. If an alcohol-free environment is your main reason for choosing a hotel, filter for “alcohol-free property” and then confirm with the hotel in writing.
Burkini rules at Tunisian hotels: check every pool
Many families assume a Muslim-majority country means modest swimwear is welcome everywhere. The listings say otherwise. Shems Holiday Village, Sousse Pearl Marriott and Marhaba Palace all list their pools as “modest swimwear not allowed” (Listed), while their beaches are listed as allowing it. In 2022, Reuters reported that at least 20 hotels on Tunisiabooking.com advertised a burkini ban (Reported, September 2022). We have not checked that site today.
The Sousse Pearl Marriott is a good example of why dates matter: in that same report the hotel said it would open its main pool to all adult guests “no matter the swimwear they choose,” yet its HalalBooking listing still shows “modest swimwear not allowed” today. Treat that as Conflicting and ask the hotel before booking. Ladies-only pools are rare: the HalalBooking filter showed 3 ladies-only pools and 19 ladies-only spas in all of Tunisia (Listed). If a women-only pool or beach is essential, women-only beach resorts in Türkiye currently offer far more documented options.
Is all food halal at hotels in Tunisia?
Not automatically. Nine of the eleven listings say “all food … is halal” (Listed). Marhaba Palace says only “some menu options” are halal, and Dar Hammamet only has a snack bar, with halal food nearby. Whether a listing is accurate is a separate question; ask the hotel how meat is sourced if that matters to you. For destinations where finding food is easiest, see holiday destinations with halal food.
Tunisia in winter: which halal-friendly hotels stay open
Late autumn is when listing details start to bite. Outdoor pools at Djerba Resort (until Oct 31) and One Resort Aqua Park (until Nov 3) close for the winter, Shems’ water park is closed from October 16, and Palm Beach Club Djerba closes completely from November 8 to April 30 (all Listed). For a winter break or spring break trip, look for a year-round indoor pool: Thalassa Sousse, Djerba Resort, One Resort and El Mouradi Skanes all list one (Listed). Water temperature and weather are not covered by these listings, so check a forecast before you go.
Which Tunisia hotel type fits you?
- No alcohol anywhere matters most: filter for “alcohol-free property” (Al Baraka and Dar Hammamet in our sample). Expect smaller properties and fewer pools.
- Kids, slides and a burkini-friendly pool: El Mouradi Skanes, Thalassa Sousse and One Resort list modest swimwear as allowed in their pools. Compare with our halal all-inclusive family resorts.
- Beach first: most listed beaches allow modest swimwear, but they are mixed. Read our guide to halal beach holidays for how to check this.
- Budget: we quote no prices because they change daily. See cheap halal holidays and hotel chains for how to compare.
- Culture plus a riad stay: Morocco is the closer comparison; see halal holidays in Morocco.

FAQ
Are there alcohol-free hotels in Tunisia?
Yes. HalalBooking’s filter showed 70 alcohol-free properties in Tunisia on October 23, 2026 (Listed). Most large beach resorts only offer an alcohol-free room, so confirm the property-wide policy with the hotel.
Is the burkini allowed in Tunisian hotel pools?
It depends on the hotel and even on the pool. Of the 11 listings we checked, 3 list their pools as “modest swimwear not allowed,” while 6 list modest swimwear as allowed and 2 have no pool (Listed). Ask about each pool by name.
Is all food in Tunisia halal?
We don’t make a blanket claim. Most hotel listings we checked say all food is halal, but some say only some menu options are. Ask the hotel, and see our guide to halal-friendly hotel levels for what to check.
