Halal Hotels in Spain: 5 Checked in Marbella, Granada and the Costa del Sol

Plaza de España in Seville, Andalusia, Spain

Last checked: October 26, 2026. Labels: Listed = stated on the hotel’s HalalBooking listing, opened on that date. Stated = stated by an official source. Reported = stated by a third party, here Madrid’s official tourism website. Not checked yet = not confirmed from a source.

Short answer: halal hotels in Spain are rare. Of the five Andalusian hotels we checked on HalalBooking, only one, Alanda Marbella, lists all food as halal and no alcohol on the premises. The other four are “halal-friendly” in a narrower sense: they remove alcohol from your room, and two serve some halal food. So decide first what you need: a fully dry hotel (Marbella), or a good location with an alcohol-free room and halal food nearby (Granada, Ronda, Fuengirola).

Sources: HalalBooking listings for Alanda Marbella Hotel, Gran Hotel Luna de Granada, Hotel Alhambra Palace, Hotel El Tajo & SPA and Hotel Villa de Laredo, all opened October 26, 2026. For the four alcohol-free-room hotels, each listing says alcohol “is removed from guest’s room … if booked on Halalbooking”.

None of the five lists a ladies-only pool or beach (Listed). If that matters to you, Spain is not the right fit; look at women-only beach resorts in Türkiye instead.

Alcohol-free hotel or alcohol-free room?

This is the difference that matters most in Spain. An alcohol-free property serves no alcohol anywhere: in restaurants, at the pool and in room service. An alcohol-free room only means the minibar is emptied for you; the hotel’s bar and restaurants may still serve alcohol. Four of the five hotels above fall into the second group. Our guide to what “halal-friendly hotel” really means explains the other labels you’ll see.

Which Spanish halal hotel fits you?

  • You want a fully halal, dry hotel by the sea: Alanda Marbella is the only one of the five that lists both. Its listing describes it as “conveniently situated close to the beach and the mosque”.
  • You’re visiting the Alhambra: both Granada hotels are central, with an alcohol-free room and some halal food. Gran Hotel Luna de Granada also has a spa you can hire privately. Plan the sights with our Andalusia Islamic heritage guide.
  • A road trip through Andalusia: Ronda (El Tajo) and Fuengirola (Villa de Laredo) work as bases if you’re happy eating halal outside the hotel.
  • A family or couple wanting a private pool: none of these hotels lists an in-room pool. A villa is a better fit; see halal villas with private pools.

Halal hotels in Madrid

We haven’t checked a Madrid hotel listing yet (Not checked yet). Madrid’s official tourism website says the Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid offers “halal cuisine, prayer mats, praying rooms and indications to direction of Mecca”, and that similar services exist at Eurostars hotels and the InterContinental (Reported, esmadrid.com, opened October 26, 2026; the page has no date). Ask the hotel to confirm this in writing before you book.

Arriving by air? The same page says Madrid-Barajas Airport has “two mosques situated in the public area of the exits to terminals T2 and T4” (Reported).

How to check a halal certificate in Spain

When a hotel or restaurant says it is halal-certified, ask who certified it. Instituto Halal, a Spanish certifier, runs a public search of certified companies. You search by license number or by at least four letters of the company name, and it shows the certification status and expiry date (Stated, opened October 26, 2026). Alanda Marbella’s listing calls it “halal food-certified” but doesn’t name the certifier (Listed), so ask the hotel which body issued it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is the whole hotel alcohol-free, or only my room?
  • Which dishes are halal: all of them, some, or only on request? Is the meat certified, and by whom?
  • Can I hire the spa or pool privately, and at what times?
  • How far is the nearest mosque?
