Halal Michelin Star Restaurants in London: 3 We Verified

Short answer: Yes, there are halal Michelin star restaurants, but in the ones we could verify, the halal part means the meat, not the whole restaurant. In London, three Michelin-starred Indian restaurants say on their own websites that their chicken is halal, and either all or a selection of their lamb. None of the three names a halal certifier on the pages we read, and we have not checked their drinks policy. We dropped every restaurant whose halal claim we could only find on third-party blogs.

What “halal” means at a Michelin star restaurant

The MICHELIN Guide rates cooking. It does not record whether a restaurant is halal, so a star tells you nothing about the meat (Hyphen, November 2024, Reported). Every halal claim on this page therefore comes from the restaurant itself.

The wording matters. “All chicken is halal” is a claim about one meat. It does not tell you about beef, game, sauces, stocks, desserts or the drinks list. It also does not tell you whether halal and non-halal meat share a grill. If you only eat at fully halal kitchens, none of the restaurants on this page has told us it is one. For how to read these levels, see our guide to what “halal-friendly” really means.

The three London halal Michelin restaurants, one by one

Veeraswamy (Victory House, 99 Regent Street)

The MICHELIN Guide page shows a Michelin star and lists the restaurant as open (Listed). Veeraswamy’s FAQ says all chicken dishes are halal “as are a good selection of lamb dishes” (Stated). The FAQ does not say which lamb dishes, so ask when you book.

Amaya (Halkin Arcade, 19 Motcomb Street)

The MICHELIN Guide page shows a Michelin star (Listed). Amaya’s FAQ has the same halal sentence as Veeraswamy’s: all chicken dishes are halal, as are a good selection of lamb dishes (Stated). The FAQ also notes “a wide range of seafood dishes”. Seafood is a common choice for diners who want to avoid the question entirely.

Benares (12a Berkeley Square)

The MICHELIN Guide page shows a Michelin star (Listed). Benares’ homepage says “All Chicken and Lamb is Halal” (Stated), which is the broadest claim of the three. It does not name a certifier, and it does not mention other meats on the menu.

Why Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha are not on this list (yet)

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha now have their own MICHELIN Guides. We looked at the restaurants’ own websites and found no halal statement we could quote. Until a restaurant or its certifier says it in writing, we do not label it halal here. For Gulf dining, our halal fine dining in Dubai guide and Qatar guide are a starting point. Apply the same check before you book.

Which halal Michelin experience fits you?

  • You want the widest halal meat choice: Benares is the only one of the three whose claim covers all chicken and all lamb (Stated).
  • You are happy ordering chicken or seafood: Veeraswamy and Amaya both say all chicken is halal, and Amaya highlights its seafood (Stated).
  • You need a fully halal kitchen with no alcohol: we have not verified a Michelin-starred restaurant that says this. Look at our holiday destinations with halal food instead, where halal is the default.
  • It is a special dinner for two: see romantic halal fine dining for Muslim couples.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which dishes on the tasting menu are made with halal meat, and which are not?
  • Who certifies your halal meat, and can you share the certificate?
  • Are halal and non-halal meats cooked on separate equipment?
  • Is alcohol used in any sauce, marinade or dessert?
  • Can you note “halal only” on the reservation so the kitchen sees it?

FAQ

Are there any halal Michelin star restaurants?

Yes, if you mean restaurants that serve halal meat. Veeraswamy, Amaya and Benares in London all show a Michelin star on the MICHELIN Guide, and each says on its own website that some or all of its meat is halal. As of October 23, 2026, we have not verified a starred restaurant that says it is fully halal.

Does the MICHELIN Guide say whether a restaurant is halal?

No. The guide rates cooking and does not record halal status, so check the restaurant’s own website or ask its halal certifier.

Are there halal Michelin star restaurants in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles?

Travelers often ask, but as of October 23, 2026 we have not found a US starred restaurant whose own website makes a halal claim we can quote. We will add one here once we can source it.
