Short answer: the best halal beach holidays are the ones where you can swim without feeling watched. That means one of three things: a women-only beach, a pool nobody can see into, or a beach where modest swimwear is normal. Türkiye’s Alanya coast is the only place where we’ve documented resorts with all three plus no alcohol. The Maldives, Dubai, Zanzibar and Lombok work too, if you pick the right stay.
What makes a beach holiday halal?
- Somewhere women can swim freely: a women-only beach section or pool with female staff, or a private pool that’s fully secluded.
- Modest swimwear accepted: burkinis and full-coverage swimwear allowed on the mixed beach and in the pool.
- Halal food: ideally all food on the property, not just one dish.
- No alcohol around the pool: only an “alcohol-free property” guarantees this.

Türkiye: women-only beaches on the Mediterranean
This is the classic halal beach holiday. Adenya, Adin and Wome Deluxe in Alanya each list a women-only beach section with female staff, several women-only pools and a women-only spa, on properties where all food is halal and no alcohol is served. Each also has mixed areas, so the family can swim together too.
Two things to check: the women-only beaches are seasonal (roughly April to early November), and each resort sets an age limit for boys in the women’s areas, usually around 5 or 6. Compare them in women-only beach resorts in Türkiye.
Maldives: private pools and local-island rules
In the Maldives, privacy comes from the villa rather than a women-only beach. Fiyavalhu Resort is listed as alcohol-free with all-halal food, and its Beach Pool Villas have fully secluded pools. Its main beach and pool are mixed.
On local islands (where Maldivians live), travel guides report that swimwear is only allowed on designated tourist beaches, and modest dress is expected elsewhere (Maldives.com, Reported). Ask your guesthouse what’s acceptable on that island. More in Maldives halal resorts and halal island resorts.
Dubai: beach plus a ladies-only pool
Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on Palm Jumeirah lists a fully secluded ladies-only indoor pool with female staff and a ladies-only spa. The beach and outdoor pool are mixed, with modest swimwear allowed. All food is listed as halal, but the property isn’t listed as alcohol-free. More options in Islamic and halal-friendly hotels in Dubai.
Zanzibar and Lombok: villas with their own pool
Both are Muslim-majority islands with white beaches. In Zanzibar, Zanzi Resort lists all food as halal and villas with private pools, some fully or partly secluded (see halal resorts in Zanzibar). On Lombok, HalalBooking’s guide describes Svarga Resort as alcohol-free with only halal food and private villas with secluded pools (see halal travel in Bali and Lombok).
What to pack for a modest beach holiday
- A full-coverage swimsuit (burkini) in a quick-drying fabric, and a spare so one can dry.
- A swim hijab or cap that stays put in the water.
- A light cover-up for walking between the room, restaurant and beach.
- Check the pool rules: some pools require swimwear made of swimsuit fabric.

FAQ
Where can Muslim women swim on a beach holiday?
At resorts with women-only beaches and pools, such as Adenya, Adin and Wome Deluxe in Türkiye, or in a villa with a fully secluded private pool, such as Fiyavalhu’s Beach Pool Villas in the Maldives.
Are burkinis allowed at resorts?
Often, yes. HalalBooking marks many mixed pools and beaches as “modest swimwear allowed”, as it does for Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. Rules differ per hotel and even per pool, so ask before you book.
When is the best time for a halal beach holiday in Türkiye?
Between April and early November, when the women-only beaches at the resorts above are listed as open.
