For many Muslim families and couples, a villa with its own pool is the whole point of the holiday. The women in the family can swim freely, without a dress code and without strangers around.
But on booking sites, “private pool” usually only means not shared. It doesn’t mean nobody can see it. A pool can be yours alone and still be overlooked by the villa next door, a hotel balcony or a hillside road.
This guide shows you how to tell the difference before you pay.
“Private” vs “secluded”: the words that matter

Some halal-focused platforms use these exact terms. HalalBooking, for example, labels pools and hot tubs as “fully secluded” or “mostly secluded” per room type.
7 checks before you book
- Look for the word “secluded”, not just “private”. If it’s missing, ask.
- Check the room type, not the property. In many resorts only some villas have a secluded pool. The listing for Adin Resort, for example, says the secluded outdoor pool applies to “some” units of its Villa with Pool.
- Study the photos for neighbors. Look for balconies, windows, rooftops or a road above the pool. Wide-angle photos often crop these out.
- Check the satellite view. Open the address in Google Maps and switch to satellite. How close are other buildings, and are they higher up?
- Ask about walls and screening. What’s the height of the wall, hedge or fence around the pool, and on how many sides?
- Ask about staff access. Do cleaners or gardeners enter the pool area at set times? Can you choose those times?
- Get it in writing. Ask the property to confirm by email that your villa’s pool is not overlooked. Keep the email with your booking.

Villa resort or stand-alone villa?
- A villa inside a halal-friendly resort gives you a secluded pool plus alcohol-free dining, halal food and often women-only beach facilities. The trade-off is that the villas sit close together, so check #3 and #4 matter even more.
- A stand-alone vacation villa (for example around Kalkan or Fethiye) usually means more distance from neighbors. But there’s no halal kitchen or rules on site, and seclusion depends entirely on the house. Use all 7 checks.
