Last checked: October 24, 2026. Stated = from an official government or transport website (US State Department, UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Dubai RTA, Japan National Tourism Organization), read on that date. We don’t rate countries ourselves; travel advice can change overnight.

Short answer: no government ranks the safest countries for Muslim women, but the US and UK publish travel advice you can compare. On October 24, 2026, the US State Department rated Japan, Malaysia and Singapore Level 1 (“Exercise Normal Precautions”), Türkiye, Morocco and Indonesia Level 2, and the UAE and Qatar Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”, advisories dated October 23, 2026). Read both governments’ advice, including their notes for women, right before you book and again before you fly.

How to read US and UK travel advisories

  • US levels run from 1 to 4. Level 1 is “Exercise Normal Precautions”, Level 2 “Exercise Increased Caution”, Level 3 “Reconsider Travel”. A country can have one level overall and higher levels for some areas.
  • The UK doesn’t use numbered levels. It lists the areas where the FCDO “advises against travel” or “all but essential travel”. It also warns that “your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the FCDO”.
  • Look at the date. The UAE and Qatar advisories were reissued on October 23, 2026. A blog post written before that date, including older versions of this page, may not reflect them.

Practical options for women traveling alone

  • Dubai: the RTA says Dubai Metro has “cabins designated for only women and children commuters” (RTA), and the FCDO notes that Dubai taxis “with pink roofs have female drivers”.
  • Japan: the national tourism organization says “you’ll often see certain cars that are reserved for women only during this morning rush hour” (JNTO). The FCDO advises shouting at a harasser to attract attention and asking a fellow passenger to call train or station staff.
  • Everywhere: the FCDO publishes general advice for women travelling abroad (updated September 8, 2026) and offers travel advice email alerts.

Which destination fits your solo trip?

  • You want a country at US Level 1 right now: Japan, Singapore and Malaysia (outside the eastern Sabah islands) were Level 1 on October 24, 2026.
  • You’re set on Dubai or Doha: both are at US Level 3 since October 23, 2026. Read the full advisories, check your travel insurance, and watch for flight changes the FCDO warns about.
  • You’re considering Türkiye, Morocco or Indonesia: all three are US Level 2 with some areas higher, so check which regions your route crosses. For Türkiye’s beach season, see our women-only beach resorts.
